Here’s a question to my fellow ladies out there; if you could only have just one accessories for the rest of your life, what would it be? I’m almost certain that most would answer their handbags! It’s simple to see why.. our handbags are functional and stylish too. Sometimes, it even functions as a status symbol. Think for your example our previous First Lady *ahem* Rosmah, who is famed for owning quite a number of Birkin bags.
If handbags are so important to us, what’s even more important after purchasing them is caring for it to ensure that the lifespan of these precious bags are extended to the longest possible time. I cannot emphasize how disappointed I am whenever my favourite bag breaks apart. The worse part of that experience is when you’re not able to ever find a replacement for it!
Before I was introduced to Saphir Renovateur, I was oblivious to the fact that handbags actually require care and maintenance too…. albeit it being relatively low maintenance. The folks at ShoeTree Project have set me up with a couple of goodies but today I will share about what is known as the liquid gold of leather care products.
Saphir Renovateur
A quick search of the Saphir Renovateur will bring up results for using the leather cleaner and conditioner on leather shoes. What you didn’t know is that you can use it on handbags as well, which I believe is a fairly new knowledge to most ladies. I remember I had a friend who posted for help after realising her leather bag are in a horrible condition because of the lack of leather conditioner used.
If I was her, I know I’d be so frustrated and hugely upset over what happened. But fret not, as these could actually be prevented by quite a few simple steps to care for your precious bag. All you need is a piece of cloth and of course, Saphir Renovateur.
How to Use
As I mentioned it’s relatively easy to use the product on your precious bags and the whole process takes less than 10 minutes, tops! Of course, a little disclaimer here as the time taken would also depend on the size of your bag as well the attention to detail that you’d like. At the side of the product, there is a pictorial guide on how to use it.
I find it amusing that this product was probably produced with an intention for leather care for bags but ended up, becoming more known for the leather shoes care instead. I said that because of the guide on how to use the product is focused just on a seemingly similar to a Hermes design bag. Nevertheless, I’m here to share how to use this product today … specifically catered for your leather bags. There are only four simple steps:
Step 1: It begins with finding a suitable cloth where you’ll be dabbing some product on it.
Step 2: Next, apply the product on the bag in, ideally a circular motion to ensure that the Saphir Renovateur is applied evenly on your bag.
Step 3: Wait for a couple minutes, the recommended waiting time appears to be 3 minutes as per the guide.
Step 4: Using a clean cloth, lightly wipe the bag all over to ensure that any residue of the product have been spread across across the bag evenly.
And that’s it to that! Sounds super easy eh, it really is. I like to think of this essential care step as being an investment. Let’s put things into perspective, if I had spent so much to get that dream leather bag, I’d be sure to do my best to prolong its useful life. This is probably also the accountant in me speaking but trust me, I really am an accountant and truly, this is also the best way to maximise your every dollar.
What is it?
By now, you have read about how to use the product;
Saphir Renovateur but you may wonder what is it actually? It’s actually a blend of all-natural mink oil, lanolin, and beeswax, which by the way smells rather amazing. The mink oil helps to rejuvenate leather thoroughly and completely. This is why the product is both a leather cleaner and conditioner unclogs pores for deeper penetration into the leather.
Left : After | Right : Before
The result from the application of the product will leave a soft matte finish as a result of it containing small amount of waxes. My partner is no stranger to this product as he uses it to care for his leather shoes. When I showed him the comparison picture of the before and after using the product on my bag, he was able to point out which picture was after the application of the product. Once you understand what the product does to your bag, then you’ll notice the difference. It’s important to understand that product does not add shine to your bag, which was my initial expectation. However, as I read more about it I realised what the product was designed to do.
Thoughts
Priced at S$28.00, I would say that it’s a minimal investment to make in view of the upside derived from it. Like almost every product we use, it’ll get worn out from the daily usage and without proper care and maintenance, even the highest quality product will succumb to it. And that is why I’d recommend getting the Saphir Renovateur; it’s a simple, quick and very easy way to maintain your loved leather products! It’s a plus point that it smells so good too. 🙂
