“Treat your body like a temple, not a woodshed. The mind and the body work together. Your body needs to be a good support system for the mind and the spirit. If you take good care of it, your body can take you wherever you want to go, with the power and the strength and energy and vitality you will need to get there.” – Jim Rohn
When I stumbled upon the quote above, I realised just how true Jim Rohn was. In our hectic lives, we would so casually neglect our bodies. As these “abuse” to the body continues on for the years to come, the pain and discomfort we have endured would be accumulated. The one day …. when the floodgates are opened, and all hell’s break loose. Suddenly, we are hit with a sharp pain or have developed a serious case of injury. This is why prevention have always been better than cure. In all honesty, I’m guilty for this. I’ve always been busy making excuses to not taking a better care of my body.
About a couple of years back, I noticed that whenever I wore heels and walked, my ankle would bend and caved in at a weird angle. It looks like my ankle is contorted and probably, at risk of twisting my ankle. I stopped wearing those heels, thinking that the heels was not a good fit for me. Little did I know that it was a warning alarm of a more serious underlying problem that I have.
I have “FLAT FEET”.
If this is the first time you’ve heard of the term, you may think it’s just feet that are flat. But no, it’s not that simple. Most of us would have an arch in our feet, but I actually have a very low arch which is almost non-existent. The arch in the foot allows the foot to support the weight of the body, so without that, there is an uneven distribution of bodyweight. As a result, pain can develope over time and may cause serious conditions like Achilles tendinitis, Plantar fasciitis … just to name a few.
I found out about my condition during my recent visit to Sunfeet International, located within the grounds of Super Pharmacy in Section 19, Petaling Jaya. Sunfeet International have just recently opened in December 2017 with an aim of being a one-stop centre for orthothic services including being a rehabilitation centre for those that suffer from various conditions affecting the feet.
Dato Dr Edmund Lee, resident doctor and a reowned Orthotic Expert and his assistant performed a free biomechanical foot evaluation on my feet and the results showed that I have a low arch and over pronation (inward rolling of my foot).
The moment my Foot Analysis Report was generated, Dr Edmund drew a few points on my feet to indicate and show how my feet was curved in the wrong angle. 🙁 I think my case was more serious that others who were there, because only I had those points drawn on me. Before I freaked out further from the diagnosis, Dr Edmund explained that there are ways to re-align my feet and fix my foot.
This is why the Sunfeet International acts as a rehabilitation centre with different solutions from making medical grade custom made orthotics to comfort footwear to prosthetics as well. You can select from the various products or services available to assist in your restoration process.
The custom made orthotics will involve a few steps to ensure the orthotics would be the best fit for the customer. First step is a 3D scanning which has a 90% accuracy with the second step using plaster to form a mould of the feet. The last step is measurements taken where the combination of these three steps will result in an accuracy of 99%.
This visit to Sunfeet International have proved to be a very informational one especially since I was able to diagnose the condition I now suffer from. In the long run, if my feet is not treated I will eventually suffer from injuries in my foot, ankle or even more serious …. my spine.
So, I cannot emphasize the importance of of getting your feet checked at their Open Day on 27 January 2018 from 10AM to 7PM with various activities including public talk by Dr Edmund. If you have kids, do bring them along as there will also br a children’s colouring contest, alongside special promotions with 15% discount on selected products. Be early as possible as the first 50 customers will also received RM500 worth of vouchers!
Besides the Open Day with Chinese New Year just around the corner, Sunfeet International is offering exclusive promotion with the “Happy and Healthy Feet for Your Loved Ones” promotion valid till 28 February 2018. It is a gift box set which makes it ideal to gift to your loved ones. Instead of giving cash, giving them this would enrich their lives by improving their wellbeing.
